MAMI Wrap Up – Day 5
Special Screening Shree Devi Phataka
The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star along with Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA) organised a special screening of Navin Chapade’s Shree Devi Phataka for the youth who come from the marginalized sections of the city. The theater was packed with youngsters who cheered, laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the film.
Set during the festive time of Diwali, the film takes you back to 1984 Bombay. An 8-year-old’s undivided obsession with Shree Devi Phataka, which is an expensive bomb, sets off a chain of events that affect the people around him. The constant banter between two aged people, a brewing love story and hopeful dreams is what the film is made of.
Director Navin Chaparral who was also part of the screening shared the story behind how the film got its name. “During the year 1984, Sridevi was the one of the most popular actors. That is why we decided to name the film Shree Devi Phataka.” He also added that he thoroughly enjoyed watching the film with the audience.
