Four young urban Indian men think of mediating between a severely violent and inconsiderate state and revolting and intolerant Maoists with the help of music and poetry. They are out to build the missing bridge of consideration and understanding that could get dialogue going between these two warring parties. Little do they know that their love for music stands outgunned by the unconscious hatred that these two parties have for each other. Little do they know that in their journey they are going to hear far more many dying men crying for help than the number of tunes they are able to conceive off. Manish Manikpuri’s Aalaap is the story of these four men and their untold fates in the bullet riddled and black-ops infested world of Dantewada and Chattisgarh. A must watch for anyone who thinks that films should attend to burning national and local issues directly and with no qualms.
