Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Ugly’ will be screened at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. Directors’ Fortnight is a parallel section of Cannes Film Festival and a non-competitive section.

Gangs of Wasseypur I and II were screened in the same section at the festival last year.

Produced by Phanton Films, Ugly has Tejaswini Kolhapure and Ronit Roy in lead roles. It is co produced by DAR Motion Pictures.

It’s a simple kidnap drama but it deals with relationships, patriarchal system, how men look at women, domestic violence and many more things. It’s a very personal drama in the shape of a thriller”,  according to Anurag Kashyap.

Commenting on the selection he said, “I believe in making my films without caring for anybody. I make films in a more universal language and that’s what probably works.”

Bombay Talkies which comprises of four short stories, of which one segment is directed by Anurag Kashyap will have a gala screening at Cannes to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema. In addition, two of Anurag’s co – productions, Dabba by Ritesh Batra and Monsoon Shootout by Amit Kumar will also be screened at the festival.
