Bindu is obsessed with music and so am I – Parineeti Chopra
National award-winning actor Parineeti Chopra is all set for the release of her upcoming film Meri Pyaari Bindu. The film sees her returning to the big screen after a gap of almost two years but the actor is unperturbed as she believes that as an actor, being out of practice is out of question. From her first preference while selecting a project to her overall process as an actor and the similarities with her character Bindu, Parineeti shares much in a tete-a-tete with Pandolin.
What is your character in the film?
Bindu is a very irresponsible girl. I call her irresponsible because she’s a flying bird who wants to try new things all the time. She doesn’t complete her relationships. She’s fond of switching cities. She’s always on, “Wo bhi karna hai..wo bhi karna hai..wo bhi karna hai mode” (I want to do everything). Because of all this, she’s very spunky and energetic and always fills up the room whenever she walks in. So, people always keep following her and want to catch up with her.
Contrary to Bindu, I am a very responsible person. I plan a lot and am disciplined. I’d say I am a little more in control than what Bindu is. What I share with Bindu is the passion for music. She’s obsessed with music and so am I. That’s the only place where Bindu and Parineeti match.

You play a singer in the film, how did you prepare for the role?
There wasn’t much of a preparation. It was not a theatrical role where I had to learn any special skills. This script is very well-written, so I could find everything (I needed) on paper. Everything is etched out well so there wasn’t any specific preparation. As for music, I have studied classical music so that wasn’t such a challenge either.
Being out of practice is out of question
How was it working with the film’s director Akshay Roy?
Akshay is just brilliant. I had always heard about him from different quarters. There always used to be talks that there is this person named Akshay Roy who is trying to make his film. So, by the time Bindu was offered to me, I already wanted to meet this person. I met him and within five minutes I fell in love with the guy. He is such an amazing person. I could sense that he’d make a great film. Today we are such good friends. So, for the sake of my dear friend I’d like Meri Pyaari Bindu to do well (Smiles).

From your first film to this one, what would you say are your learnings?
As you progress in your career, your technique gets stronger. You learn much more about films. But my process as an actor has always been about being spontaneous and it still remains the same. I rehearse before the takes but during the takes I try to be fluid. All of this hasn’t changed since day one.
I first look at the script, followed by the director and then my role.
And how would describe your process of selecting projects?
I first look at the script, followed by the director and then my role.
My process as an actor has always been about being spontaneous
As an actor, does not being on set for some time affect one’s craft? How does one get back into the flow of things?
I wasn’t away for so long. I had some health issue for which I consulted a doctor. I was away only for ten months and then I signed Meri Pyaari Bindu. Its shoot started soon after. So, for me it was not such a gap that things would change. Also, I never stopped shooting for my endorsements. So, being out of practice is out of question.

You have played the girl-next-door in a number of your films. Is it easier to relate to such characters?
Directors look at me like that. In my real life, I like to make people laugh. And that reflects on screen. I think people look at the spunk in me.
What I share with Bindu is the passion for music. That’s the only place where Bindu and Parineeti match
What keeps you busy between your acting assignments?
I scuba dive! Yes, that’s true. I am crazy about scuba diving.
