Four Indian films compete for Asia Pacific Screen Awards
Four Indian films, which includes Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox, Amit Virmani’s Menstrual Man and Shilpa Ranade’s The World of Goopi and Bagha have been nominated under different categories for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards while Rajeev Ravi has earned a nomination for Achievement in Cinematography in Amit Kumar’s Monsoon Shootout.
The Lunchbox will compete at the Best Screenplay while The World of Goopi and Bagha has been nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category. Amit Virmani’s Menstrual Man, a Singapore – India co-production, has been nominated for the Best Documentary Feature Film.
The six films that will compete for the best feature film award are Omar (Palestine), Le Passé (The Past, France, Italy), Soshite Chichi Ni Naru (Like Father, Like Son, Japan), Bangladesh’s first APSA nomination Television, anthology film The Turning (Australia) and With You, Without You (Sri Lanka).
Around 39 films from 22 countries will compete in nine different categories. For the first time, films from Bangladesh, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are nominated for APSA.
Veteran Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal heads the jury which comprises South Korean director KIM Tae-yong, Sri Lankan actress Malini Fonseka, Turkish actor Tamer Levent, Swiss director Christoph Schaub and Hong Kong producer Albert Lee.
The award ceremony will be held December 12, 2013 in Brisbane.
