Huma Qureshi wins Woman Of The Decade award at the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival!

In a film industry that is fixated with conventions, Huma Qureshi is a pleasant anomaly. The gorgeous actress who has been trotting the globe for her professional commitments throughout this year, has been awarded Woman of the Decade by Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival.

In 2008, she moved to Mumbai to audition for film roles, auditioning for a film, Junction, which was never made: “I never thought of coming to Mumbai or being an actress. But when my friend called me for an audition for a movie called Junction, it set me thinking. Sadly, the film never got made”. Qureshi signed a two-year contract with Hindustan Unilever to appear in their television commercials. She made her feature film debut with a supporting role in Anurag Kashyap’s critically acclaimed two-part crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 1 (2012), where Qureshi was cast as the supportive wife of a criminal (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui).

The Woman of the Decade honour was bestowed upon the talented actress for establishing her versatility and representing Indian talent globally by way of her international debut in Viceroy’s House. Owing to her contribution to cinema,  VISAFF has also chosen her as an ambassador of cross cultural cinema. Invited as a Guest of Honour for the film festival, that celebrated Canada’s 150th birthday with a prestigious women’s organization called, All Ladies League’s Women Economic Forum, the powerhouse performer shared the stage with many Canadian dignitaries including, Ex-Mayor.

It is also learnt that the organisers of the festival brought a cake for Huma to celebrate her success in the entertainment industry.
