Indian cinema’s centenary celebration set to begin in full swing
On 3rd May 2013, when the Indian cinema shall complete 100 years of its existence, Delhi is all set to witness a special film festival called Centenary Film Festival to be held from 25th April to 30th April, to mark the celebration of centenary of Indian cinema.
A silent film ‘A Throw of Dice’ to the accompaniment of live music orchestra by maestro Nishat Khan will open the Centenary Film Festival in Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi on 25 April 2013.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari will inaugurate the Festival and also an exhibition on “Indian Cinema 100 (Celebrating a Century: An Audio Visual Voyage)”.
The key highlights of the festivals include a special ‘Satyajit Ray Restrospective’ in which Satyajit Ray’s films will be screened, screening of classics as well as contemporary Indian films by directors Guru Dutt, Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan among others, and showcase of documentaries by eminent documentary makers like Mike Pandey, Anand Patwardhan and Jaideep Verma.
Another key highlight of the festival is “Cut-Uncut,” a three-day workshop conceived and being executed by members of the Central Board of Film Certification. This event will showcase the growth and evolution of censorship in Indian cinema, through workshops and insightful panel discussions.
Eminent filmmakers and actors have been invited to interact with the audiences over the course of the six day festival.
The six-day festival will conclude on 30 April with a play the life and times of Dadasaheb Phalke by Aamir Raza Hussain.
The Centenary celebrations would culminate in the National Film Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan on 3 May, including the presentation of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award to thespian Pran by President Pranab Mukherjee.
