As part of the Namibia/ India Cultural Exchange programme for 2014, Namibian and Indian governments  in collaboration with the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) will host an Indian Film Festival called “Bollywood comes to Namibia” in Windhoek.

The Film Festival will feature eight very popular Bollywood Movies by well-known Bollywood film directors, Aamir Khan, Subhash Ghai, Sooraj Barjatya and Rajkumar Hirani, just to name a few.  Eight movies that are lined up for screening. The movie 3 idiots, kicking off the festival today at the Roman Catholic Church Hall for free entrance, is a comedy about two friends searching for their long lost companion. They revisit their college days and recall the memories of their friend who inspired them to think differently, even as the rest of the world called them???. It is directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

Next comes the movie Koi Mil Gaya, on February 1, which is about a developmentally disabled young man who tries to continue the work his father did in communicating with extra-terrestrials from outer space. This leads to something miraculous and wonderful. This movie is directed by Rakesh Roshan. Hum Saath-Saath Hain, which is about Ramkishen and second wife Mamta, who have three sons and a married daughter. The eldest son is handicapped since birth, and is from Ramkishen’s first wife. It is a drama about the trials and tribulations of a family and it is directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya.

Taare Zameen Par will be screened on the February 2and is about an eight-year- old boy thought to be lazy and a troublemaker, until the new art teacher has the patience and compassion to discover the real problem behind his struggles in school. It is directed by Aamir Khan. Than Taal screening on February 3is about lovers who are separated by a series of irreparable misunderstandings which alter their destiny. It is a heart-breaking romance set in a convoluted plot, sprinkled with a good dose of glitter and glamour and is directed by Subhash Ghai.

Two films screen on February the 6. Baadshah is  about a private detective who solves mysteries and helps people find answers to clues of the world. He is headed  for a hair rising finale that will surprise everyone, especially himself, proving that he is indeed the Baadshah of hearts. This is directed by Abbas-Mustan.  And Pardes, about Kishorilal, a successful businessman settled in America but attached to his motherland – India. He sends his Americanised son along with his foster son, Arjun, to India to find a suitable  match. It is just the beginning as Arjun falls in love with her while playing Cupid and this leads to a love triangle. Pardes is directed by Subhash Ghai.  The final film to be screened, Black, is about the cathartic tale of a deaf, mute and blind girl, and her teacher who brings a ray of light into her world of BLACK. This is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
