Indian Films to Make a Mark at Hong Kong International Film Festival-13
9 Indian films have been selected to be screened at the 37th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) , which will begin on 17th March 2013 with a Hong Kong film ‘Ip Man-The Final Fight’ directed by veteran Herman YAU.

Among the selected Indian films include Nishtha Jain’s ‘Gulabi Gang’, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur’s ‘Celluloid Man’, Santha Kumar’s ‘Guru of Silence’, Prasanna Vithanage’s ‘With You, Without You’, Anand Gandhi’s ‘Ship of Theseus’, Ritwik Ghatak’s ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’, Shambhavi Kaul’s ‘21 Chitrakoot’,and Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur I and II’.   

‘Gulabi Gang’, which was named Best Film in Muhr Asia-Africa documentary section at Dubai International Film Festival 2012, will compete in the Documentary section in HKIFF’13. The documentary narrates the story of a group of women in pink saris fighting against gender violence and for the rights of poor and Dalits.

‘Celluloid Man’ is a documentary film on the work of PK Nair, the man behind building the National Film Archive of India. Hence, the docu-film will screen under the Filmmakers and Filmmaking Section that focuses on films made on people who have significantly contributed to the world of cinema in their own ways.

Tamil drama ‘Guru of Silence’ and India-Sri Lanka co-production ‘With You, Without You’ will be presented at the Global Vision section.

‘Guru of Silence’ is a story of a misunderstood college youth who unwittingly gets involved in a crime plot that spirals his life out of order. The film was last screened at the Chennai International Film Festival 2012.

With You, Without You’ is adapted from ‘The Meek One’ by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It is a love story that revolves around the consumerist nature of humans.

Ship of Theseus’ will screen under the Indie Power platform while a digitally restored version of Ritwik Ghatak’s ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ will be screened in the Forever Classics section.

21 Chitrakoot’ will be screened under the Avant Garde Programme I. The film was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival 2012 as part of ‘Wavelengths’, the festival’s curated presentation of the best in international avant-garde film and video.

Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur I and II will be screened at the Gala Presentation.
