Indian talent in American films should win Oscar
Kamal Haasan believes that Indian talent should work in American films and win Oscar for their contribution. This would make more sense, he feels. He did not feel disappointed when his film Vishwaroopam could not get selected as India’s official entry at The Academy Awards.
“With due respect, my films have gone seven times to the Oscars but I think it will make more sense when the Indian talent takes part in American movies and wins an Oscar or it must be like the way Raysaab (Satyajit Ray) did for world cinema. Otherwise, we are just visiting America, we are tourists,” Kamal Haasan told reporters at the closing of the Jagran Film Festival.
Satyajit Ray, legendary Indian filmmaker, won an Honorary Academy Award for his contribution to world cinema. He also won many National Awards. His film Pather Panchali, won eleven awards at various international film festivals, including one at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Good Road was selected out of 21 Indian films as India’s official entry for The Academy Awards. The other contenders were The Lunchbox, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Ship of Theseus, English Vinglish, Vishwaroopam, Malayalam film Celluloid and Bengali film Shabdo.
A huge controversy erupted when The Lunchbox was not declared as the India’s official entry. The film fraternity seemed unhappy on The Film Federation of India’s unlikely choice.
