‘Lunchbox’ wins critics week viewers choice award at Cannes
Ritesh Batra’s debut film ‘Lunchbox’ has bagged the critics week viewers choice award, the Grand Rail d’Or, at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.
Starring Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddique in the lead roles, the film received unanimous praise from the audience during its screening at the festival.
“Just got the news the lunchbox won its first award at Cannes,” Irrfan posted on Twitter.
‘Lunchbox’, which is one of one of the four films selected for the film extravaganza, revolves around a mistaken delivery in Mumbai’s efficient dabba service. This wrong delivery of a lunchbox connects a young housewife to a man in the twilight of his life.
‘Ugly’, ‘Bombay Talkies’ and ‘Monsoon Shootout’ are the other entries at the prestigious festival.
An elated Anurag Kashyap, who was honoured with the Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) by the French government at Cannes, posted, “It’s begun.. Lunchbox wins critics week viewers choice award.. It’s called the Golden Rail or something.. Yay.”
Kashyap’s kidnap drama ‘Ugly’ got mixed reviews at the festival.
