Nishtha Jain’s Gulabi Gang to release on 21st Feb in India
Gulabi gang directed by Nishtha Jain, which won several awards worldwide will release on 21st Feb in India via PVR Cinemas. Sohum Shah, actor-producer, Recyclewala Films, who also produced Ship of Theseus is presenting the film. Torstein Grude and Signe Sorenson of The Act of Killing fame have produced Gulabi Gang. The film takes a close look at the grassroot women’s movement in Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh.
These women’s ceaseless crusade against caste discrimination, gender violence and bureaucratic corruption is eight years old and comprises of almost 400,000 women. The gang also is a crusader against child marriage and dowry. Another film in 2010 has been made by Kim Longinotto called “Pink Saris”. We will also see Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla starrer “Gulaab Gang” in March which too is based on the same group of vigilantes.
The film presents the audience with hurdles, challenges and victories that were achieved by the Gulabi Gang on their road to bring social change in the society. Gulabi Gang has been to over forty film festivals and won many awards including Amnesty International Awards for Human Rights in South Africa and Poland and Best Film at Dubai International film Festival.

It will be interesting to watch this at the theaters as the story of the former Bigg Boss contestant & activist Sampat Pal is also been allegedly portrait in Bharat Shah’s Gulab Gang, starring Madhuri Dixit Nene & Juhi Chawla which releases later in March this year.
