Take 2: It’s raining sequels in Bollywood
2016 has seen an interesting mix of films emerge from Bollywood. From biopics like Neerja and MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, to entertainers like Sultan and even hard-hitting stories like Pink. October ended on a high note with the release of two highly awaited big-ticket films, Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. November is here and winter is coming but nobody wants the fun to stop, right?
The end of the year brings back characters and stories that etched a mark on our hearts. We’re talking about sequels to the films that ruled the box office and are now returning with a promise to offer something refreshing and different.
If one follows the calendar, November seems to be the month for sequels in Hindi cinema. We take a quick look at some of these much-awaited films.
Rock On 2
The 2008 blockbuster hit Rock On set a benchmark for music-driven films in India. It was known for its great music, outstanding performances and the alluring storyline revolving around the lives of four friends. The sequel, Rock On 2, is expected to have a similar theme that takes the story forward but with its own twists and turns. The sequel also sees the introduction of a new character played by Shraddha Kapoor. The eclectic mix of actors alongwith the foot-thumping music has surely got the youth hooked as they await the release of the film.
The film releases on November 11, 2016.
Tum Bin 2
Directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Tum Bin 2 is the sequel to the 2001 romantic drama, Tum Bin. Recalling the prequel, it is remembered as one of those romantic films that move you even today. And one cannot forget its marvelous music compositions including the iconic number, ‘Koi Fairyaad’, sung by none other than the maestro, Late Jagjit Singh. Such was the popularity of the song that it has been revived for the sequel of the film. There are a lot of expectations from the plot and since the film doesn’t star any big names, it will be a test for all the actors as well as the entire crew to live up to the reputation of Tum Bin.
The film releases on November 18, 2016.
Force 2
Force 2 is the sequel to 2011 action-thriller Force starring John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza. The sequel will have Sonakshi Sinha in an action-packed avatar while Tahir Raj Bhasin of Mardaani fame will play the negative lead. If the trailers are anything to go by, the sequel promises double the action and thrill. While Nishikant Kamat helmed the first film, Abhinay Deo who has directed the TV series 24 has directed Force 2. One eagerly awaits to see the next level of action in Force 2 alongwith its gripping plot. With the extensive fan following of the stars and the prequel, the bar of expectations has been raised.
The film releases on November 18, 2016.
Kahaani 2
Director Sujoy Ghosh’s 2012 thriller film Kahaani has set its own benchmark in the history of thrillers in Bollywood. With such a unique plot and storyline and some incredible performances, this film was even admired by international viewers. Sujoy Ghosh is back with its sequel where Vidya Balan is shown as a wanted criminal in the first look of the film, which has made the public curious and captivated. Not much has been revealed about the story line, but with such an amazing prequel, one can expect nothing less than an enthralling sequel.
The film releases on December 2, 2016.
