The digital space is a melting pot of talent. It has helped many a budding artists become famous stars. In fact, mediums like YouTube have given talent a sense of autonomy, allowed freestyling and experimenting, giving them an interactive podium overall. Many have jumped to make use of this platform; while some are a hit, some have missed the mark while there are those who have become superstars! We bring you some of these trendsetters who have now become Internet sensations.

Arunabh Kumar needs no introduction. His brainchild, The Viral Fever (TVF), bagged 200,000 subscribers and 18 million views in just 18 months of their YouTube debut. Armed with a degree from IIT, Arunabh came to Bombay for a job, only to quit it after a while. After a stint with assisting on films, he pitched the idea of Qtiyapa to MTV but was rejected. Arunabh says that the Canon camera, YouTube and this rejection came into his life at the right time. In 2010, he started The Viral Fever with his friend, employee and current partner Amit Golani, and their success is for all to see.

Sumeet Vyas

The poster boy of the web series world, Sumeet Vyas is an excellent example of how YouTube fame can work wonders for aspiring actors. He was first seen in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish but real recognition came to him with TVF’s Permanent Roommates where he played the lead. And since then the actor, who also writes web series, has become a household name. He was last seen in Tripling by TVF and will soon be making his film debut opposite Kalki Koechlin in Ribbon.

The comedian, script writer and producer is the co-founder of All India Bakchod (AIB). From producing podcasts to becoming one of the top comedy collectives in the country, AIB has come a long way. With an oversized body, a sly grin and enormous wit, Tanmay’s humour is spot on. He was also part of Vir Das’ Weirdass comedy before starting his own channel and company!

This 20-year-old became a singing sensation at the young age of 15. Her first song “Main Tenu Samjhawan Ki” followed by six cover videos  amassed more than two million views in all, making her YouTube channel – Shraddharockin – the highest subscribed channel in India with a whooping 207,674 subscribers. And she instantly catapulted to fame. Shraddha has launched her album titled ‘Raastey’ which is all about life and the road that lies ahead.

This Indo-Canadian YouTube star and actress is better known as “Superwoman”. Lilly Singh started her channel in 2010 and has garnered over 1.4 billion views and 9.9 million subscribers. She was ranked eighth on the Forbes list of the world’s highest paid YouTube stars. Lilly is truly a trendsetter with new YouTube vloggers often trying to ape her style in their videos. She released her first feature film, A trip to Unicorn Island in 2016.

Scherezade Shroff, also popular among her followers as Sherry, is a name to reckon with in the Indian Internet diaspora. At just 29, she has an immense fan following across social media. Her YouTube channel is the go-to destination for all things beauty and fashion.  She started modelling when she was barley 16 and also created a fashion blog called ‘Fashionalized’. Mallika Dua

Mallika Dua left a cushy 9-5 job in Delhi to come to the land of dreams and become an entertainer. Her hilarious Snapchat videos and trending characters like the rummy-playing Dadiji, Makeup Didi and more have made Dua a hit with people of all age groups. Her ‘Girliyapa – Why Should Hot Girls Have All the Fun’ videos are the latest Internet rage. This bubbly comedian’s trademark is her #JaiMataDiLetzRock! which is seen at the end of all her posts.

His voice has made people fall in love. Such is the following of Sanam Puri, the lead vocalist of the band ‘Sanam’. He shot to fame after winning the Times Music Superstars hunt which led to the formation of his band.  Puri is especially famous for giving old songs a melodious makeover with ‘Gulabi ankhein’, ‘Lag jaa gale’ and ‘Mere mehboob’ being some of his hit numbers. He has also recorded songs for Bollywood and his band performs live shows on a regular basis.

Bhuvan Bam kicked off his career by performing at bars in New Delhi. The professional musician also writes, composes and sings. BB Ki Vines, his enormously popular YouTube channel was accidentally created while he was checking the front camera of his new phone. Now renowned as the ‘Hutiyapa’ guy or Bencho, he is the youngest Indian vlogger to cross one million subscribers on his YouTube channel. His videos are mostly satirical in nature, with lots of characters and situations.
