Vikram Gandhi’s Kumare at Atheist Film Festival
The fifth annual Atheist Film Festival which is billed as A Film Festival You Can Believe In returns to San Francisco September 14 at the Roxie Theater with a lineup of thought-provoking titles, including a satire made by an Indian American director.
Vikram Gandhi’s Kumare, which took the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, follows Gandhi as he impersonates a Hindu guru and finds that his made-up teachings are actually able to attract a following of gullible seekers.
Other films on this year’s lineup include the documentary The Re-visionaries, Hug an Atheist, Sophia Investigates the Good News Club, Creation, a biopic on Charles Darwin starring Paul Bettany, and The Magdalene Sisters, which shows the hidden abuses within a Catholic order of nuns in Ireland.
