10 Films to Watch in 2013

Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ is Vishal Bhardwaj’s most awaited film of the year. Like his all films, this comedy drama too has a rustic reality imbibed in the story line as the film is set in a village in Haryana. The story is about Harry Mandola (Pankaj Kapur), a wealthy industrialist alcoholic, his daughter Bijlee (Anushka Sharma) and the bond they share with Harry’s man Friday Matru (Imran Khan). An LLB graduate, Matru takes up a job to serve Mandola’s family. He falls in love with Bijlee, who later goes to study abroad and falls in love with another man called Baadal (Arya Babbar), who happens to be the son of a powerful politician (Shabana Azmi). How the simple love triangle brings twists and turns in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film is to watch out for!!!
Donning multiple hats, Vishal Bhardwaj himself has given the film’s music and the catchy tracks are already in everyone’s lips. Imran khan is donning a typical Haryanvi look in the film, for the first time. While Anushka Sharma’s sexy tattoo on her lower back gives the message that speaks for the film ‘Dekho Magar Pyaar Se’. The film is foreseen to be the major grosser in the first quarter of 2013.

If this reason isn’t enough, the hottest pairing of the industry’s personalities may bring you to the cinema halls. Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh starrer film ‘Inkaar’ buzzes the media with its valiant subject and equally striking poster of the film.
The film’s story revolves around Arjun Rampal who plays a dapper CEO of an advertising agency and Chitrangada Singh who is a budding copywriter in his firm. Arjun Rampal trains her about how to make it big in the ad film world. However, life takes a U-Turn when Chitrangada alleges her boss Arjun of sexual harassment while the latter firmly denies it. Who’s lying or who’s speaking truth?

If you have liked ‘A Wednesday’, you know it why you must watch director Neeraj Pandey’s next film ‘Special Chabbis’!! It is said that Neeraj Pandey waited for almost three years for Akshay Kumar to be a part of this film. Akshay is playing a character of ‘Ajay Singh’, heading a 26 men army in the film, which is based on an infamous robbery that took place on 19 March 1987 when 26 people posing as income tax officials raided a famous jewellery store in Opera House, Mumbai. The film also has Manoj Bajpai as a real CBI officer and Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill in other vital roles.
So far, any other information about this film has been strictly kept under wraps. Interesting promotions in the form of news clippings has already generated the curiosity in people’s mind while trailer of the film is also been liked.

After giving a hit film ‘Rock On’ in 2008, director Abhishek Kapoor is back with his another master project ‘Kai Po Che’ based on Chetan Bhagat’s book ‘3 Mistakes of my Life’. Set against the backdrop of religious politics, the film highlights the three mistakes made by Govind. The story takes its turn when three friends Ishaan, Govind and Omi discover cricket, religion and business in their respective fields.
The title ‘Kai Po Che’ means a triumphant yell in Gujarati. With this film, the three television actors Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh will be debuting on big screens. The music given by Amit Trivedi is very catchy with heart-touching lyrics. Going by the trailer and trusting the calibre of Abhishek Kapoor, ‘Kai Po Che’ already seems a promising film in the year 2013 and we say a must watch indeed!!
It may revive the magic of ‘Three Idiots’, which was again based on Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’.

The story of the film is a mystery!! After ‘The Dirty Picture’, the suspense thriller ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ is supposed to be the next big project undertaken by producer Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj joins hand with her. It is said the film reveals about the existence of witchcraft practices in the cities. Emraan Hashmi will be seen playing role of a magician while actress Konkona Sen Sharma will be seen as ‘Daayan’. The film also stars Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi in prominent roles. Debutant director Kannan Iyer is creatively leading the film.
Having taken such an intrepid subject and kept it a hush-hush affair, ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ appears to be a film, leading to another new dimension!

After the success of ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, director Aanand L. Rai roped in Kolaveri famed Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor together for his next romantic film ‘Raanjhnaa’. Although, the film’s story line has been kept under cover, it is said to be a love story of two young characters at the age of 17 and leaping to the age of 23. Dhanush, who is set make his Bollywood debut, is expected to play a Hindi speaking Brahmin boy named ‘Kundun’. Actor Abhay Deol is playing cameo role in the film, the shoot of which has largely been done in Delhi, Varanasi and Haryana. Music maestro A R Rahman has given music to ‘Raanjhnaa’.

Those who have loved ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Delhi 6’ can anticipate the force of the filmmaker Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s next film ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor. The biopic on Milkha Singh, an athlete, the role which Farhan Akthar is playing, depicts perseverance and courageous human spirit of him. The name of the film ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ was the last words spoken by Milkha Singh’s father, which was to save his life from the riots during the Partition of India. Filmmaker Prakash Jha is known for making socio-politically inclined movies. His next project is largely inspired by Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement that sparked off in the year 2012. None other than, Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in to play the role of Anna Hazare while Kareena Kapoor will be seen portraying a character of International journalist. Amongst other characters is Ajay Devgn playing the role of an entrepreneur and Manoj Bajpai portraying a wily politician. After the success of ‘Rajneeti’ which was again set against a political backdrop, ‘Satyagraha- Democracy Under Fire’ seems to be the most anticipated and awaited movie of the year 2013.

The director, who gave biggest hit of the year 2010 in his very debut film ‘Dabangg’, Abhinav Singh Kashyap is back with ‘Besharam’ for the year 2013. Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in a new colourful avatar. For the first time, the actor will be seen together with his parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in the film. Since the movie has just gone on the floor, nothing much has been revealed about the plot or story line of the film.
So we have to wait to watch Ranbir turning ‘Besharam’ as the tagline says ‘Na Samman Ka Moh, Na Apmaan Ka Bhay’!!!

Release Date – 25 December
So far he has written screenplay and dialogues of the popular Bollywood action film ‘Dhoom’ series, and now with ‘Dhoom 3’ Vijay Krishna Acharya is making his directorial debut in the industry. The film is supposed to be newly action packed; retaining its police officer Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, while Aamir Khan makes a new entry as an antagonist in Dhoom 3. Katrina Kaif will be seen playing a lead role opposite Khan. The very presence of Mr. Perfectionist in the Dhoom series makes this film to watch out for, besides of course the adventuresome action sequences that have always been a part of it. With this, make yourself set to vroom on this year’s Christmas!
Totalling only 10 films for this year would be unfair as other interesting movies are lined up to entertain you which includes RGV’s The Attacks of 26/11 (based on Mumbai attacks on 26/11), Krishh 3 (touted to be best sci-fi film in Bollywood), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (romantic saga where in Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone once again pairing up together), Ghanchakkar, David, ABCD (India’s only dance film directed by none other than dance master Remo D’Souza), Murder 3, Zanzeer, Shootout At Wadala (the sequel of ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’), Lootera, Gunday and many more……..

if one liked the very complex story telling of Bejoy Nambiar in his debut film Shaitan , one has to watch David,his next. hitting theatres on 1st feb. Made in 3 different languages, the film talks of an ensemble cast , shot by 3 different DOPs , treating the three different stories in different set ups each time . Also has the evergreen Damadam Mast Kalandar rendition now sung by Rekha Bharadwaj feat Sarika.
