Cinematographer, Santosh Sivan with Epic Dragon and the new Angenieux Optimo DP 25 – 250

Broadcast India 2013 was a very special edition for Angénieux since the exhibition was the first presentation of the new OPTIMO DP 25-250 after IBC. Based on the mythic ratio of the HR lens, well known by a whole generation of Indian DoPs, the new OPTIMO DP 25-250 was presented during two events last week. A special private preview was organized in Westin Garden Mumbai on October 8th evening where Angénieux’ close customers and partners had the exclusive opportunity to try this new product. Displayed together with the OPTIMO 45-120, OPTIMO DP 16-42 and OPTIMO DP 30-80, a large panel of rental houses and Directors of Photography enjoyed the performances of the Angénieux Optimo zoom range.

During the exhibition itself from October 9th to 11th, the new OPTIMO DP 25-250 was displayed on the RED booth and mounted on the new EPIC DRAGON camera. Optimized for the latest generation of large sensor digital cameras, particularly robust and precise in the most demanding environment, the OPTIMO DP 25-250 attracted a large crowd and generated enthusiastic reaction from operators and customers. The OPTIMO 45-120 was also displayed on the RED booth, with the new RED motion mount and the OPTIMO 16-42 and 30-80 were respectively presented at SONY India and Stereovision booths.

During these 4 days in Mumbai, a number of famous Indian cinematographers, among them Binod Pradhan, Sunil Patel, Sudeep Chatterjee, Ayananka Bose, Setu, Attar Singh Saini, Ravi Walia … have discovered the performances of this new Angénieux lens. Angénieux had also the great pleasure to participate with Red India to the exclusive presentation of the EPIC Dragon to DoP Santosh Sivan ASC for a private test shooting held in Prasad Studio in Chennai. This event was an unique occasion for Angénieux to make one of the most famous Indian DoP try the latest generation of zoom lenses developed by the company”.

Talented DoP, Santosh Sivan worked with some of the most famous indian directors as Priyadarshan ( Gardish, Kala Pani) or Mani Ratman ( Thalapathi, Roja, Iruvar, Dil Se). His work is also recognized abroad where he filmed The Mistress of Spices by Paul Mayeda Berges, or Bride and Prejudice by Gurinder Chadha. Santosh Sivan worked also as a director: Tiblu’s Story (1988), Halo (1997), The Terrorist (1998), Navarasa (2005), Tahaan (2008), Prarambha (2008)

He is member of the ASC – American Society of Cinematographers and founded the ISC – Indian Society of Cinematographers in 1995 .
