Sequels that we’d love to see in Hindi cinema

Sequels have gradually picked up pace in Hindi cinema owing to the popularity of the original story and the audience’s curiosity to know what happens next. Watching our favorite actors reprise beloved characters is every fan’s dream. While many movies have had impressive sequels, there are some which have much scope to join the bandwagon, because sometimes, just once is not enough!

Keeping that in mind, here’s a list of 10 movies whose sequels we’d love to watch and we hope that our wish comes true.

Lagaan

Lagaan which was based in the colonial times and British Raj instigated a lot of emotions in us. With a glimpse of how the villagers survived in those days and stood up against the Britishers, the movie ends with the disbanding of the cantonment in Champaner. We’d like to see what happens after the troops have retrieved. How life changes for the villagers and Bhuvan and Gauri, the now married couple. Or maybe get to hear the story from Elizabeth’s perspective when she’s old? There’s definitely a lot to explore.

Munna Bhai Series

One of the best comic franchises of Bollywood, the Munna Bhai series starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi had the nation in splits. While Munna Bhai M.B.B.S spread Jaadu Ki Jhappis, Lage Raho Munna Bhai advocated non violence and Gandhigiri. There were speculations that a third film is in the making but no official announcement has been made. It’s a franchise that appeals to everyone in this country and we’re all very eager to watch more of the comic adventures of Circuit and Munna Bhai.

Black

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Black was a coming-of-age story of a blind, deaf and mute girl. Beautifully enacted by Ayesha Kapur and Rani Mukherjee, the film explores the beautiful journey of this girl getting empowered and independent while also exploring her beautiful relationship with her teacher. We see Michelle (the character) growing up into a happy woman and would love to see how she moves ahead in life and accomplishes her dreams and desires.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

A slice of life story, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu traces the lives of the lead characters, Rahul and Riana, played by Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film was a young, rather unconventional rom com with a very non-filmy ending. Rahul and Riana do live happily ever after but not as a couple and simply as buddies! It’ll be fun to watch another episode in the life of these two crazy characters and see if they do eventually fall for each other.

Andaz Apna Apna

Andaz Apna Apna is one of the most celebrated comedies in India. The spot on casting, hilarious dialogues and  comical scenes make it a wholesome entertainer that continues to make you laugh even today. After all these years people still talk about this film, which has gained cult status. every fan looks forward to more of Amar and Prem’s escapades and a laugh riot in the form of a sequel.

Dor

Dor

Dor tells a beautiful story about two women who come from different backgrounds. The film shows their struggle and journey and how things change when they meet each other. While Meera played by Ayesha Takia is treated as an outcast after her husband’s death, Gul Panag who plays Zeenat is trying to save her husband who is implicated in a murder. Nagesh Kukunoor sensitively weaves the story of these two women who help each other and develop a compassionate bond. Meera gets a breath of fresh air after meeting Zeenat and we’d like to see how their lives evolve in the future.

Angry Indian Goddesses

Directed by Pan Nalin, Angry Indian Goddesses is billed as India’s first all-out female buddy film.  With its cast of seven actresses, the film shows women-related issues without being boring and preachy. Pan Nalin shows the inner strength of women and how they can be a force to reckon with. The film also has its fun moments that every girl gang can identify with. Knowing what the goddesses are upto and where their lives are headed would definitely make for an exciting sequel.

Queen

Vikas Bahl’s Queen follows an under-confident Punjabi girl (Rani) from New Delhi who embarks on her international honeymoon all by herself after her fiancé calls off their wedding. What follows is a journey of self discovery, confidence and sheer liberation. Kangana Ranaut won the National award for Best Actress while the film won the National Award for Best Feature Film. Who wouldn’t want to watch Rani as she takes on yet another exciting journey in life!

Rockford

Rockford is a coming-of-age film starring Nagesh Kukunoor, Rohan Dey and Nandita Das. A high school drama with crisp direction and great acting, this was a movie that was ahead of its time. The film revolved around a young Rajesh, his life in school, friends and his first kiss. The film is still remembered for its innocence and   As time has passed, we’d like to watch Rajesh as a grown up guy and his happenings in life with the very same direction and vision by Nagesh Kukunoor.

Dil Chahta Hai

Dil Chahta Hai

Dil Chahta Hai set the trend for youth-oriented films in Hindi cinema. With love stories of all kinds, some sweet and some unconventional, the heart of this movie was friendship. Urban relationships, issues faced with today’s youth and a setting that any youngster could identify with make this a film relevant even today. We would love to watch a sequel of this movie and see the progress in every character’s life and how they face the new challenges that come their way.
