Known for characters that are anything but conventional, Vidya Balan is back in a never seen been role. The actor is all set to play Begum Jaan, the fierce madam of a brothel in Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming period drama. A remake of the Bengali film Rajkahini, the story is set in Punjab during the era of the Partition.

The film also features an interesting cast that includes Naseeruddin Shah, Ila Arun, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Ashish Vidyarthi and more.

Begum Jaan is produced by Vishesh Films and is slated to release on 14 April.

If the trailer is anything to go by, we can expect another power-packed performance by Balan who owns the character.
