Innovations in Moving Images (Deadline: August 31, 2018)

Kolkata International Film Festival, accredited by FIAPF has in its 24th chapter decided to continue its
3rd edition of Innovations in Moving Images. The focus of these sections will be on originality and independence of expression in innovative forms of cinematic language and modern trends of the world cinema which are made by the emerging as well as by renowned filmmakers.

Last year, Los Perros by Marcela Said was awarded by BEST FILM in 2nd edition of Innovations In Moving Images competition.

24th chapter has also decided to continue National Competitive Section on “INDIAN LANGUAGES”. This would be the 3rd edition of this competition section. The focus of the section is to explore contemporary Indian language fiction feature films which show its originality and independence of expression in innovative forms of cinematic language and modern trends, are produced in India & made by the emerging as well as by renowned filmmakers from India.

Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is accepting entries to the 24th KIFF 2018 at its Competition and as well as non competition. Applications for submitting films are now being accepted (Deadline: 31 August 2018) through online submission. Regulations for Innovations in Moving Images Competition (summary):

 

a)     Films must be fiction-feature films. Duration must be not less than 60 Minutes.

b)     Films must be completed between 1st October 2017 and 15th September 2018 and duly authenticated by the entrant in the entry form.

c)     The film which has not been theatrically released in India.

d)     Asian, World and International Premiere will get preference but films must be an Indian Premiere.

e)     All films in the competition will be screened at the Festival in their original versions, with English subtitles.

f)      In the case of co-productions, at least one of the producers/production companies must have the right to sanction the participation of the film in competition in the Festival and authority to receive award, if any, is won.

g)     Entrants must agree that if their film/films win any of the Golden ROYAL BENGAL TIGER Awards, all screenings thereafter will acknowledge the Award(s) on the film itself.

h)     Entrants should inform the KIFF office by 31st August 2018 about their participation, including the titles of films and the names and addresses of the directors, producers, production companies and world sales companies against each film titles.

i)      Films which are selected for competition must be submitted with a Blue Ray Disc as back up copy along with the DCP for screening.

j)      Entrants are invited to agree that the concerned professionals will receive the award in person, if the film/he/she wins any. KIFF reserves the right to cancel the cash component in case of the awardees not being able to present him/her at the award ceremony on the closing night. For any reason the awardees is not able to personally attend, he or she should immediately in writing, nominate an immediate family member or from the film its producer or director.

The Awards:

I.    Best Film                       :       A cash prize of INR 51,000,00/- (78000 USD appx.) to be shared equally

between the Director and Producer. Director is to be given the GOLDEN

ROYAL BENGAL TIGER and a certificate in addition to the cash component.

Producer will get a certificate in addition to the cash component.

II.    Best Director                 :       GOLDEN ROYAL BENGAL TIGER, a Certificate and a cash prize of

INR 21,00,000 (32000 USD appx.).

III.  Special Jury Award       :       GOLDEN ROYAL BENGAL TIGER and Certificate only

 

 

Regulations for Indian languages Competition (summary):

 

a)     Films must be fiction-feature films. Duration must be not less than 60 Minutes.

b)     Films must be completed between 1st October 2017 and 15th September 2018 and duly authenticated by the entrant in the entry form.

c)     The film which has not been theatrically released (commercially or in Indian Film Festivals, on video/DVD/telecast /internet/VOD). The films should not be available on any public platform in India. Asian, World and International Premiere will get preference but films must be an Indian Premiere.

d)     All films in the competition will be screened at the Festival in their original versions, with English subtitles.

e)     In the case of co-productions, at least one of the producers/production companies must have the right to sanction the participation of the film in competition in the Festival and authority to receive award, if any, is won.

f)      Entrants must agree that if their film/films win any of the Awards, all screenings thereafter will acknowledge the Award(s) on the film itself.

g)     Entrants should inform the KIFF office by 31st August 2018 about their participation, including the titles of films and the names and addresses of the directors, producers, production companies and world sales companies against each film titles.

j)      The festival will not communicate for rejection for any films. The filmmakers will be notified about selection at the end of the selection process and no information will be shared before that.

k)     The Director must be an Indian citizen and at least one of the producers must be an Indian citizen.

l)      Films can be submitted for more than one section by separate Entry Forms. If submitted in more than one section the committee will reserve the right to choose the most appropriate section for the film, if selected.

The Awards:

I.    Best Film                       :       A cash prize of INR 7,000,00/- to be shared equally between the Director and

Producer. Director is to be given the GOLDEN TROPHY and a certificate in addition to the cash component. Producer will get a certificate in addition to the cash component.

II.    Best Director                 :       SILVER TROPHY, a Certificate and a cash prize of INR 5,00,000

III.  Special Jury Award       :       SILVER TROPHY and Certificate only.

 

 

24th Kolkata International Film Festival 10-17 November 2018 

Selection for non competitive sections and NETPAC:

 

The selection committee is also in charge of the following official sections.

  1.     Cinema International: Feature films from all over the world and made in 2017-2018 only.
  2.     Asian Select (Netpac): Feature films from Asian Countries and made in 2017-2018 only.

       III.    Bengali Panorama: Bengali films(premiere only)

  1.     Children’s Films: Feature films made in 2017-2018 only.­

 

The committee will preview films in  DVDs (NTSC/PAL) and online screeners only. The Preview DVDs should be sent specifying “No commercial value and for cultural purpose only”. The consignor should send the previewing copies by National and International couriers. DVDs shall be returned on request. A copy for the festival archive will be highly appreciated. NETPAC AWARD: Members of the Jury Board decide a Best Feature Film for this award from the Asian Section.
