Day 2 at Jagran Film Festival – An encounter with Anurag Kashyap

The second day of the 7th Jagran Film Festival showcased an array of wonderful films. The World Cinema section comprised of two Spanish films, Habanastation and Zoe, directed by Ian Padron and Ander Duque respectively, the English film Pop Up, directed by Stuart McBratney, German film Hear The Silence, Portuguese film Letter, directed by Sergio Graciano, and Mexican-Spanish film Eddie Reynolds and The Iron Angels, directed by Gustavo Moheno.

The popular Indian Showcase section witnessed critically-acclaimed films including Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan’s Lens, Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh, Aparna Sen’s Arshinagar, Meghna Gulzar’s Talvar, K D Satyam’s Bollywood Diaries and Bauddhayan Mukherji’s The Violin Player.

The Retro/Tributes category showcased films like V Shantaram’s Dr Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding, Algimantas Puipa’s Garden Of Eden, Kireet Khurana’s Maker On Maker and Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai.

Anurag Kashyap at the 7th Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai

A session with the renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in conversation with Ajay Brahmatmaj was the highlight of the day for its immense takeaways. Director-producer-actor Anurag Kashyap touched upon his journey as a filmmaker while also speaking about economics of filmmaking, film budget, taxes, number of screens, content, acting, short films and venturing into Bhojpuri cinema, among other things.

On his interest of attending film festivals, Anurag Kashyap said at the event, “It’s for my own survival. It has helped in my growth as a filmmaker and a producer. Personally, it helps me evaluate and expand my own market.”

Ritesh Shah at the 7th Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai

Ritesh Shah, writer of the recently released film Pink, has also graced the film festival. He revealed technical elements of script writing and motivated aspiring writers. He also shared his experiences of writing Pink, which took the audience by surprise.
