Khidkiyaan Theatre Festival, a five-day annual fest organized by Mukesh Chhabra Casting Co. in Mumbai from January 13-17, 2016 received an overwhelming response from the theatre lovers on day 2. The evening began with a soulful live performance by acclaimed actor-lyricist-songwriter, Piyush Mishra. It was followed by an entertaining story reading session by Manu Rishi; the actor-writer narrated a self-written autobiographical story ‘Khidkiyaan’ which had the audience in splits. Sumeet Vyas opened the show of the play Shadow Of Othello with a welcome note. A modern day take on William Shakespeare’s Othello and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara directed by Ishteyak Arif Khan and produced by T.C. Chhabra, Both the shows opened to packed houses and received standing ovation. B-town celebrities came in full force to watch the plays and support the festival. Present were Sushant Singh Rajput, Richa Chadha, Sudhir Mishra, Makarand Deshpande, Subhash Kapoor, Mugdha Godse, Kritika Kamra, Yashpal Sharma, Sumeet Vyas. The first edition of the non-ticketed fest is being held at Sathaye College. The beautiful evening came to an end with Mukesh Chhabra thanking the audience for being so wonderfully responsive to the festival and a promise to make it an annual feature. He said, “Never thought, in my entire life that if I do such a thing with my team for theatre, I would get such a wonderful response. Really happy to get support from Manu Rishi Chadha, Piyush Mishra, Sushant and Richa. I am getting emotional now…I’ll continue this every year, if I get time.”
