The first day of the India Non Fiction Festival witnessed the launch of  ‘Directors Cut: 50 Major Filmmakers of the Modern Era’ by author Mr. M K Raghavendra. The eminent author was introduced by renowned film director, producer and screenwriter Mr. Mahesh Bhatt. In attendance at the event and giving their support were writer and director Mr. Sanjay Gadhvi, actors Rahul Bose and Minissha Lamba along with critic and author Ms. Bhawana Somaaya.

The book is a critical introduction to the finest international filmmakers throughout the last 50 years, showcasing a perceptive collection of essays which define their remarkable work. The author talks about film criticism not keeping pace with modern cinema, while covering a whole range of cinema examining directors throughout moments which sparked a renaissance in film since the 1960’s. Mr. M K Raghavendra is a noted film scholar and the founder-editor of web journal Phalanx. He has received the national award, the Swarna Kamal for being the Best Film Critic in the year 1997.

Commenting on the launch of his book, Mr. M K Raghavendra said, “The shape of cinema today is totally unrecognizable since the change in the 1950s’, the reason for the significant change were revolutionary directors who steered the process. I wrote this book to honor and define the work of these exceptional individuals. It is good to be at an event which celebrates non-fiction writers, in order to officially launch the book which is the result of my lifelong passion.

Speaking about the occasion Kumaar Bagrodia, Festival Director, India Non Fiction Festival said, “The festival is a treat for the fans of the non-fiction genre and films is a topic which resonates with all of us. Coming across Mr. M K Raghavendra’s book, I found it was a perfect fit for our event and it was a pleasure launching the book.”
