An English-Konkani feature film, based in Goa and with songs in Konkani, is set to do the rounds of film festivals.

‘The Coffin Maker’, with Naseeruddin Shah as its embittered protagonist, has been chosen to be screened at the 13th River to River Florence Indian Film Festival in Italy later this month and has also been selected for the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) slated for November.

The film that also stars Ratna Pathak and Randeep Hooda in leading roles, revolves around coffin maker Shah, who lives in a small Goan village, where he eventually learns about life through meeting an unusual young man, played by Hooda.

The songs for the film, that has already earned much critical acclaim, have been penned and sung by Goa’s celebrated singer, Hema Sardesai, and claims to be the first English movie to include all songs in Goan Konkani. It is directed by debutant director Veena Bakshi and produced by Shree Narayan Studios Ltd.
