Google Play Movies now in India

Google has entered the movie rentals and download business in India with the launch of Google Play Movies. Google Play Movies offers the ability to rent and purchase movies. Both Hindi and English films are available on the store. Indian users can now watch and download Hollywood as well as Indian films using Google Play Movies Android App.

One can rent movies for streaming for a single viewing from Rs. 50 (standard definition) and Rs. 75 (HD) and for download for Rs. 390 (SD) and Rs. 490 (HD). Upon renting a movie, you can start watching within 30 days of purchase and continue to watch for up to 48 hours. Once a movie is purchased, it will be available in the library.

The first titles available are big Bollywood films mostly from Yash Raj stable such as: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Chak de India, Veer-Zara.

According to reports, YouTube has also launched its rental program in India. Using this service YouTube partner publishers will be able to monetize their content through online rentals. YouTube Rentals are already available in United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, France, Australia, Spain, and Germany.
