Hindi Cinema legend Pran has passed away!
The legend of Hindi cinema, veteran actor Pran Kishan Sikand (also popularly known as Pran) breathe his last breath at the age of 93. Due to serious illness, he was admitted to Lilawati Hospital in Mumbai.
The 93-year-old actor was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, on May 10 by Information & Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari at his residence in Mumbai.
Pran acted in over 350 movies in a career spanning over six decades and played a vast range of roles – from a hero to a villain to a character artiste.
He played the leading man in films like Khandaan (1942), Pilpili Saheb (1954) and Halaku (1956). His roles in the films like Madhumati (1958), Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai (1960), Upkar (1967), Shaheed (1965), Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool (1969), Johny Mera Naam (1970), Victoria No 203 (1972), Be-Imaan (1972), Zanjeer (1973), Don (1978) and Duniya(1984) are considered to be among his best performances.
Be it the Malang Chacha of Upkar or Sherkhan of Zanjeer, he was loved and appreciated for his each and every role. He reigned the industry from late 60s to 80s and managed to garner equal respect and money comparable to top film heroes and stars.
In the year 2001, the veteran actor was conferred with the third’s highest civilian award i.e. Padma Bhushan. Besides, he had been honoured with four Filmfare awards, especially the Lifetime Achievement trophy, which he bagged in 1997.
Today, the legend is no more among us. May his divine soul rest in peace!
