One of the most prestigious film festivals, The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF, previously known as Pusan International Film Festival, PIFF) is held annually in Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea. The BIFF focusses on introducing new films and debut directors, in Asia and across.

The Film Festival announced its line up on Tuesday. The 20th edition of the festival will be held from October 1 to October 10 and it will open up with an Indian film. Zubaan. BIFF’s co director Lee Yong-kwan at a press conference in Busan on Tuesday says the film justifies the current transition and the future of Indian cinema that the world is looking forward to.

Zuban is a new age film about a punjabi boy, who loses faith in life and is inspired by music. The film stars Masaan actor Vicky Kaushal in lead with Sarah Jane Dias and Kaushan. Mozez Singh, who makes his directorial debut with Zubaan, said it is an honour to have his film premier at the coveted festival. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will join as the jury for the New Currents competition in the Asian films section at the festival.

Other Indian films to be showcased at the Festival include blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Aligarh. Bjrangi Bhaijaan which released on July 17 broke all records and not only dominated the box office in India but crossed borders. It narrates the story of an Indian man who discovers love and affection while taking a speech impaired Pakistani girl back to her country. The film stars Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan in lead with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and child artist Harshali Malhotra.

Aligarh, on the other hand is an upcoming real life story inspired by the incident of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras who was terminated from his job because of his sexual orientation. Set in the backdrop of Bareily, Uttar Pradesh, Siras, who was the professor of Marathi at the Aligarh Muslim University, later committed suicide. Manoj Bajpai will be seen playing the role of Siras with Rajkummar Rao as the journalist. Director Hansal Mehta rejoices on the fabulous news.

Indian cinema is now reaching out on International levels by showcasing the world, fabulous productions and making a mark not only at the Busan International Film Festival, but also globally, one film at a time.
