Four outlaws from Bihar are out to gun for blood and fortune on the streets of Mumbai. Little do they know that amongst them they have one who will defect and dream life afresh. Little do they know that this will cause their usual, criminal life of gore and moolah to topple and crash beyond repair. Manish Vatsalya’s Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal brings to us the blackest of the black tragedies that get produced in the vicious circle of crime in India. At stake are ideas of male camaraderie, desire and the desirable, deception, self-interest and love. What is valuable in life and what is not and why? The film promises to be a hot-pot of heated drama, a bundle of provocative music and lyrics, and a queer bouquet of madness, shrieks, killings and dejection, raising the film noir concept to a freakish, precipitous height. Whether Jeena Hai Toh would scale the walls of excellence in performance, concept and direction or whether it would slip and tumble into the depths of some experimental dungeon needs to be seen. One waits to find out and with bated breath too.
