Kabir Bedi honoured for his international show Sandokan at Rome Festival
Kabir Bedi, the home grown international actor, popular across the globe not just for his films but TV shows makes us proud again. With roles in the ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ and the Bond film series ‘Octopussy’, Kabir was the one of the first Indians who created a wave internationally. It was Sandokan, an Italian-French-German co-production, a TV series that made Kabir a heartthrob across Europe and most of Latin-America after the premiere in the late 1970’s.
Kabir’s international acting career that spanned over 3 continents doesn’t seem to take a break even after 30 years. The show which was based on a character created by Emilio Salgari became an instant success and went on to become one of the most remembered shows of those times and it is still loved to date. Sandokan was recently honoured at the proclaimed Rome Fiction TV Festival in Rome along with Bedi. Delegates from around the word applauded the longevity and success of Sandokan where Bedi spoke eloquently about the show being the most successful TV series in European television history, and how it opened the doors of International cinema for him.
Kabir added, “It felt fantastic to be given a red-carpet welcome at the Rome Fiction TV Festival with the Retrospective of “Sandokan” TV mini-series. It was very emotional for me to see the cast together again after so many years. It was emotional to pay tribute to the man that changed my life forever, he was the one who cast me as Sandokan. . I will be forever grateful to him.”
The show is finally making a comeback as it will be launched in India with its own dubbed version in Hindi to begin with along with original English subtitled show.
