National award winning Film scholar and critic M.K. Raghavendra’s book ‘Director’s Cut: 50 Major Film-makers of the Modern Era’ will be releasing in Mumbai on June 21 as part of the India Non-Fiction Festival in Worli.

The book will be released after a panel discussion on cinema titled ‘Bold Cinema for Real India/ Real Cinema for Bold India’.

The panel discussion and the book release will be held between 4 – 5.30 pm at Culture Hall, Nehru Centre, Worli.  Film director Mahesh Bhatt will release the book.

The book speaks about the works of stalwarts in the field of direction such as Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar, Ingmar Bergman, Luis Bunuel, Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak.

“When I say ‘Major Directors’ the reader should understand that these directors are not my favorites but those regarded as important by general opinion. I have been very critical of the work of a large number of celebrated figures. Readers should therefore be prepared for my views not corresponding with their own. They should be prepared for a well articulated provocation,” says Raghavendra.

M. K. Raghavendra received the National Award for Best Film Critic in 1997. He is the author of ‘Seduced by the Familiar: Narration and Meaning in Indian Popular Cinema’.
