Mantostaan is based on four stories by noted writer Sadat Hasan Manto. The film is a dark satire set during the Partition era. The stories the film is adapted from are Khol Do, Thanda Gosht, Assignment and Aakhiri Salute.

The film directed by Rahat Kazmi, opened at Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes. It features Sonal Sehgal, Shoib Nikash Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Virendra Saxena, Raina Basnet, Sakhi Bhat, Tariq Khan and Rahat Kazmi in lead roles.
