Making any film comes with its set of challenges but more so if it’s a documentary. One has to face several obstacles while making a documentary in India. From finances to screenings, here’s a quick guide to prepare for these obstacles and overcome them.

Do thorough pre-production and research work, which feeds into the shooting script. This helps in saving a lot of time and money during production

For a project, apply to multiple funding agencies, some of which may fund different stages of the filmmaking process, but will help keep the project alive

Screening avenues are very limited, hence college and university screenings and collaborating with film clubs, helps to keep the film in circulation

Promote, in whatever little way, every screening, so that the word spreads and the film reaches as many people as possible. Online promotions, through Facebook and Youtube are crucial.

Focus on recording good quality and clean sound. It can make or break the film.
