The Lunchbox and Shuddh Desi Romance are two of the first round of titles set to premiere in the Galas and Special Presentations programs at the 38th Toronto International Film Festival. The festival is to be held from September 5-15, 2013.

The festival unveiled 16 Galas and 55 Special Presentations that will screen at the festival on Tuesday.

The Lunchbox will have its North American Premiere at the festival. The film revolves around a middle class housewife Ila who is trying once again to add some spice to her marriage and Saajan, a lonely man on the verge of retirement who get to know each other through a series of messages sent across in a lunchbox featuring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Director Ritesh Batra recently won Best Director for The Lunchbox at the Odessa International Film Festival in Ukraine.

Shuddh Desi Romance by Maneesh Sharma (Band Baaja Baaraat fame) follows a fresh and very real love story about the hair-raising minefield between love, attraction and commitment. A romantic comedy that tells it like it is, providing a candid look at the affairs of the heart in today’s desi heartland.

The film features Rishi Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor.
