Known as the feel good movie from India, Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox will open the 4th edition of the World Cinema Festival in Amsterdam. The festival will run from August 7-18, 2013.

“In 2011 World Cinema Amsterdam was all about independent Indian cinema – India has much more to offer than just Bollywood. The Lunchbox, first feature and wonderful feel good film by director Ritesh Batra, proves this beyond any doubt.” mentions the festival website.

The Lunchbox featuring Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui won the Grand Rail d’Or , an audience award at the International Critics’ Week of Cannes Film Festival.

Story of how a person gets his lunchbox everyday in the ginormous city, Mumbai and how one exception, a wrong delivery leads to a beautiful lunchbox-correspondence between two people living in opposite parts of the city who share their stories and secrets through letters in a lunchbox.

The Lunchbox will also compete with seven feature films in the First Feature Competition. Other titles in competition include Le Passé by Asgar Farhadi and Thy Womb by Brillante Mendoza. The Best film will be awarded a Jury prize and 5000 Euro. There is also the World Cinema Audience award with a cash prize of 5000 Euro.
