It has been almost 20 months since she was seen in her first Hindi flick, Heropanti. The film was a bonafide hit and Kriti Sanon soon became talk of the town. However, instead of signing films in a dozen, she chose to wait for that one big move. This is what she got when Dilwale came her way, which was an opportunity for her to work with Shahrukh Khan, Rohit Shetty, Kajol and Varun Dhawan. Kriti gets chatting about her experience of working in one of the most awaited films of the year.

On working in a film as big as Dilwale

This is for the first time that I have worked with so many talented and experienced actors and a director as big as Rohit. His entire team is so ‘dilwale’! I remember that after I finished dubbing for the film, a couple of Assistant Directors and I went for a small lunch. There, everyone started getting so sentimental that the film was over. Not only the cast but the entire team of Dilwale has been so hard working. I got to closely see the amount of mehnat that goes into the making of a big film like this.

On Shah Rukh Khan

He is easily the most hard working actor in the industry. I think the passion with which he comes on the sets is so infectious. He is ever so ready to rehearse and adds on to a lot of things. If you look at his standing in the industry, he doesn’t need any promotion per se. He is at a level where people will anyways come to see him. Still, he goes all out to promote his films. Recently we were in London to promote Dilwale and I couldn’t believe the way he was interacting with everyone and giving them time. Audiences were going mad for him and the amount of love that he gives to people is unbelievable.

On Kajol

She is very bindaas and carefree and the best part about her is that she is the way she is. She doesn’t really bother about where she is and in front of whom she is saying something. That’s the most amazing thing about her. If you look around, actors change in front of the camera and then the moment they are with others, they are something else. Kajol isn’t like that.

With Varun Dhawan in Dilwale

With Varun Dhawan in Dilwale

On Varun Dhawan

I feel that he is so driven and that sets him apart. There is so much of fire inside him to do well. His energy is infectious when it comes to dance and masti. He would always be on his toes when we did scenes together. He would give suggestions and also ask kya kar sakte hain. The time that we get to establish a love story is not that long since Dilwale is basically not a love story jo start se end tak chal rahi hai. There is so much happening in the film and hence it was important for us to be in sync with each other and make it a better film. Moreover, he and I are both filmy so our ideas matched too (smiles).

On Rohit Shetty

I have never seen a director who is literally running on the road with a walkie-talkie in hand. He is always on the roll. He would be doing car skids on his own and I was fortunate to see him doing that while being seated next to him. The passion that he has is superb. He takes care of everyone. Hum toh mazaak mein keh dete hain ki gaadi udh rahi hai but he has his heart in his mouth when a car does a somersault with a stuntman inside. He does it all very professionally. He takes care of everyone from the AD to spot boy to stuntmen to actors. Agar kisi insaan ko koyi trouble ho toh he stands up for him. He may look all tough and solid from outside like a serious guy but when you get to know him, you realize that he is the sweetest and genuinely caring person.

On her overall experience in the film

To see these amazingly different and talented people perform is an experience in itself. Also, they are superb in real life too. The hard work that they put together is very inspiring. Agar real life mein inki tarah thoda sa bhi ban sakoon toh badi baat hogi. The way Shahrukh Khan treats his fans is amazing. I have not seen someone as chivalrous as Shahrukh Khan. I think chivalry khatam ho rahi hai duniya mein par the way he comes and makes everyone comfortable is phenomenal. These are big people, big stars. They go way beyond their hard work and talent.
