Vivek Oberoi will be seen playing the character of Virendra Pratap Shahi, UP’s ready contract killer in a film which rolls in November. Oberoi’s yet untitled next is being helmed by a debutant director whose name has not been disclosed.

The film follows the journey of Virendra Pratap from being a local goon in Gorakhpur village to killing over 50 people. After his death in 1997, when he was shot by a local gangster who had a meteoric rise and an equally brisk fall, UP saw a period of relative peace.

“It is a big-budget gangster drama set in the ’80s and ’90s in North India,” said Oberoi. “I’m flattered that people still remember me as Chandu Bhai from Company and want to see me as a rough, rugged anti-hero. That’s what I will give them,” .

Casting for Hari Shanker Tiwari, who plays another gangster and Sriprakash Shukla, who ends Shahi’s legacy is currently underway in Mumbai.
