Angenieux 10x Optimo Anamorphic newly introduced in Mumbai
The beginning of August saw the introduction of the new Angenieux Optimo Anamorphic 44-440mm A2S to many cinematographers in Mumbai on set, during a special event in the WICA and within Cineom premises (Angénieux authorized distributor). The reputed cinematographers included Anil Mehta, Avik Mukhopadhay, Sudeep Chatterjee, Ravi K Chandran, Chirantan Das, Setu and many others.

With its 7.5kg, this 10x anamorphic zoom lens (2x squeezed) has a very limited distortion on edges, a very well controlled breathing and no ramping; it can be used full aperture (T4.5) without any chromatic aberration. More details here.
Joining the Optimo Anamorphic 56-152 A2S, released in 2014 (already available in Mumbai), and the Optimo Anamorphic 30-72 A2S introduced in 2015, the Optimo 44-440 A2S is the third lens of the Angénieux Optimo anamorphic 2x Squeeze series. Complementary to a set of primes or to the lightweight Optimo A2S zooms, the new Angénieux 10x anamorphic zoom lens brings speed and flexibility of the long range zoom to the set.
1 lens, 2 options: a true benefit for rental houses
Angénieux has designed the new Optimo 44-440 A2S thanks to inputs received from hundreds of cinematographers all over the world but also with the idea to support rental houses which could be hesitant to invest in a new anamorphic lens.
Thanks to an innovative lens modular design – Interchangeable Rear Optics IRO technology™, the lens can be converted from anamorphic to spherical.
In just about 30mns, at rental houses’ premises, the Optimo 44-440 A2S (T4.5 – MOD 4.1ft) can be converted into a 25-250mm (T3.5 – MOD 4ft) spherical lens by exchanging the rear optical element and the Focus, Zoom and T-stop markings: a true benefit for rental houses.
