Baahubali – The Beginning

Baahubali became the highest grossing dubbed in Hindi film ever and people went gaga about the VFX, performances of all the actors and the amazing action sequences but the most amazing thing that connected all of it was it’s music. Music Director, M.M. Keervani ( also known as M M Karim) created legendary tunes for the magna opus. From Yamini’s Mamatala Talli to the legendary Dhivara, from the chants of Sivuni anna to the beats in Manohari. Every song had a distinct yet a connecting tune to the story telling in the film. If Rajmouli created a vision beyond anything India has ever seen and VFX & Art direction made it a reality, Keervani’s music formed the third leg of the tripod bringing the screen alive.

Tamasha

A.R. Rahman is a genius. He can discover music in cacophony, do some magic and create something that you will fall in love with. Tamaasha has also seen first time combination of Mika & A R Rahman create the amazing ‘Heer toh badi sad hai’. Every version of Tum Saath ho or the playful Wat Wat Wat Wat. This album is a Rahman collectible.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns

Banno tera Swagger is a party anthem, Baawri Ho gayi is a party anthem, every song in the film has touched a chord or two with people with perfectly situational to the film and it’s language. This is a keeper.

Bombay Velvet

Jazz, Bombay, Amit Trivedi, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Majrooh Sultanpuri and O P Nayyar’s Fifi, this album is one of the best Jazz vintage music album to come from a Bollywood period film.

Roy

The music of the film was probably the only selling point of the film, besides the surprise in what is Ranbir Kapoor doing in the film, which probably no one knows even now but the music was a chartbuster. Chittiyan Kaliyaan, Sooraj Dooba hai and Tu hai ki nahi are probably in every hindi music lovers playlist.

Dum Laga ke Haisha

Ayushmann-Dum-BH2

Anu Malik’s original music, 90s vibe in a two tier Indian city, Varun Grover & Kumar Sanu’s Dard Karara with Moh moh ke Dhagey and the title track made you fall in love with the music of the 90s once again. This was very special.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan

Selfie Le Le was the introduction scene of Salman Khan in the film, and people in theatres went berserk. With Tu chahiye, Bhardo jholi meri, Aaj ki party and the very melodious versions of Tu Jo Mila, the album is a hit.

Masaan

No one as young as Varun Grover can write like this. The three track includes the amazing Tu kisi rail si chalti hai, Mann Kasturi and Bhor tuned by Indian Ocean. The music and lyrics are so deep and relevant, you will keep wanting more, this is a must have for everyone who loves lyrics as much as the tune.

Singh Is Bling

Probably the most commercial album of the year. Aaja Mahi, Tung Tung, Singh & Kaur, and Dil Kare Chu Cha. Every song calls for a Baraati Dance. Get this album for Labh Janjua’s last song before his sudden demise.

Questions about the period drama’s authenticity & validity of music aside, the songs are worth a mention if you are buying a video album or watching it on Youtube. I listen to the songs just because of the magic of SLB on the screen. No one can shoot a song like him. Ever.
