C’est Ca L’amour

New day, new film delights and new guests from around the globe at Zurich Film Festival. The competition sees director Claire Burger present her wonderfully heart-warming drama C’EST ÇA L’AMOUR , which highlights the mayhem of day-to-day family life.

Ismet Sijarina, a refreshing directorial voice from Kosovo, has brought to Zurich his drama COLD NOVEMBER.

And we take an amusing look at the Near East conflict in the political comedy TEL AVIV ON FIRE – the film’s main actor Kais Nashif, who recently won Best Actor at Venice, is in Zurich for the premiere.

And finally, the Focus competition presents Austrian filmmaker Katharina Mueckstein’s ingeniously shot drama L’ANIMALE.

There’s moving and colourful cinema in the Gala section today too: we join director Marcus Rosenmüller and his cast and crew to celebrate the world premiere of their touching biopic TRAUTMANN  about the “English” goalie Bernd “Bert“ Trautmann.

Director Rohena Gera takes us to the very heart of the Indian metropolis Mumbai in her colourful dramedy SIR, which reaches beyond the clichés of Bollywood to unite a moving love story with a critique of the Indian class system.

And we take a look at the early years of the later world-famous author Astrid Lindgreen in ASTRID.

We also have two film tips for you from our “New World View” section, which this year is dedicated to young Italian cinema: SICILIAN GHOST STORY ( with director Antonio Piazza in attendance) tells the poetic and slightly surreal tale of the disappearance of a young man – a crime that rocked Italy in the 1990s.

Alessandro Aronadio’s ORECCHIE (Filmpodium) is a modest, wonderfully absurd comedy that has become cult among Italian film aficionados.

Julian Schnabel

And to finish with, there’s something on the programme today that nobody should miss: New York-based director Julian Schnabel (LE SCAPHANDRE ET LE PAPILLON) offers insight into his work and is on hand to answer the public’s questions when he gives a ZFF Masters session on the 5th day of the festival.
