Mumbai’s First Multiplex Fame Adlabs is now PVR Cinemas
On May 31, Mumbai’s first multiplex Fame Adlabs that remained closed for almost a year will return back as PVR Cinemas. The launch of the multiplex in the City Mall, Andheri will be honored by Film actor Akshay Kumar.
Initially, City Mall housed Mumbai’s first multiplex Fame Adlabs started by Shringar Films’ Shravan Shrof in collaboration with Adlabs founder Manmohan Shetty. The property was later named Fame Big Cinemas when Shetty sold Adlabs to Reliance group. Shringar later sold Fame Cinemas to Inox leisure Limited.
Fame Big Cinemas got shut down in July 2012 after co-owners Inox Leisure Ltd and Reliance MediaWorks Ltd mutually agreed that the property wasn’t fetching any profitable finance.
After the shut down of Fame Big Cinemas, the property was leased to PVR. PVR is India’s first company that started the trend of multiplexes in metropolitans. In 1997, it came up with it’s first multiplex in New Delhi and by 2012; it became the largest multiplex chain in the country after acquiring the 141-screen multiplex chain Cinemax.
