The year 2016 has come to an end and it’s that time of the year when some of the outstanding films of Bollywood are going to get it’s much deserved recognition through award ceremonies.  Two such films, which received accolades from audiences, critics and industry, were Sarbjit and M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story which are now all set to compete in the prestigious 2016 Academy Awards or Oscars.

Helmed by Omung Kumar, ‘Sarbjit’ portrayed the heart wrenching story of the innocent farmer Sarbjit Singh (Randeep Hooda) and his sister Dalbir Kaur’s (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) relentless struggle to rescue him from a Pakistan jail.   It also premiered at the prominent Cannes Festival 2016, where global cinema lovers and filmmakers had acknowledged this masterpiece.

‘M.S.Dhoni – The Untold’ Story directed by Neeraj Pandey is a biopic on Indian Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni played by Sushant Singh Rajput.

Filmmaker Mira Nair’s ‘Queen of Katwe’ that chronicles the inspiring story of an underdog from the streets of rural Uganda is also part of the list.

The list also include awards season favorites La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Silence, Arrival, and Hacksaw Ridge. Superhero movies Deadpool, Suicide Squad, Captain America: Civil War, and X-Men: Apocalypse also made the cut.
