Bawa culture returns to Indian cinematic space after a long, long time with Jeet Ganguly’s lively Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi. Promising to regale one and all with some good chatty humour, chunky cinematography, popular Parsi-samaaj music, dollops of real-life romance and a few ounces of the social-familial drama that goes on in much of Bombay’s Parsi circles, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi seems to evoke memories of parallel cinema productions on Parsi culture and tribulations of Parsi life, films such as Khatta Meetha, Little Zizou, Parzania, Being Cyrus and Pestonjee. Shirin Farhad Ki Toh focuses realistically, though with some humour-inducing exaggerations, on the issues of late-marriage and midlife romance which are quite frequent among Bombay’s Parsi community. With the ever-effervescent Boman Irani and a sensational Farah Khan in the lead, the film never stops from surprising you even as it represents Parsi accents and rituals with great detail and propriety. Overall, the film intends to provide its audiences with some wholehearted mastee and some hilarious fun at the expense of its aptly exaggerated characters.
